WASHINGTON (AA) - US President Joe Biden hosted Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides at the White House on Wednesday for talks expected to touch on a range of bilateral and regional issues.
Biden said in brief remarks in the Oval Office that the US and the Greek Cypriot administration "stood together against Russian aggression in Ukraine," and "surged humanitarian aid to Gaza." He said joint efforts facilitated the delivery of 8,000 metric tons of aid to the war-ravaged coastal enclave.
"Mr. President, Cyprus made all this possible," said Biden.
Christodoulides, for his part, said the Greek Cypriot administration and the US "have built a truly strategic partnership," including joint work "on defense and security of energy, law enforcement, technology innovation."
"We have excellent relations with all of our neighbors, and we're working closely with the United States and other partners to face the current challenges, to send much-needed humanitarian assistance to Gaza, to evacuate third country nationals from the region. With regards to Ukraine, Cyprus stands on the right side of history," he said.
