WASHINGTON (AA) - US President Joe Biden is set to deliver his final State of the Union address of his presidency on Thursday.
"The State of the Union isn't just a speech – it's my report to you, the American people," Biden wrote X. "You hired me to get the job done, build an economy that works for working people, and make life better for families".
He said he would update Americans on the progress his administration has made in the three years since he took office and lay out the path ahead.
"My Administration has accomplished more over three years than most presidents have in eight – From investing in infrastructure and lowering health care costs to abolishing junk fees, making the wealthy pay their fair share, and fighting for women's reproductive health care," he said. "But there is still so much to do before the job's done. That includes lowering prescription drug prices for every American, getting student debt relief to hardworking borrowers, restoring a woman's right to choose, and banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”
The address to a joint session of Congress will take place at 9 p.m. eastern time as the US is grappling with domestic issues such as inflation and international problems like Ukraine and the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Biden's presidency is at stake as the latest polls indicate his approval ratings at 38.1%.
Biden is running neck to neck with former President Donald Trump in the presidential race.
Trump is all but assured of the Republican nomination in November's election after her last remaining challenger, Nikki Haley suspended her campaign Wednesday.
