Biden to meet virtually with Indian prime minister Monday: White House

Leaders to discuss COVID-19, climate crisis, global economy, Indo-Pacific and Ukraine war

By Servet Gunerigok

WASHINGTON (AA) - US President Joe Biden will meet virtually Monday with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said the White House.

In a statement Sunday, spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the conversation aims "to further deepen ties between our governments, economies, and our people."

Among the issues the two leaders will discuss are the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, the global economy, the Indo-Pacific and Russia’s war on Ukraine.

"The leaders will advance ongoing conversations about the development of an Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and delivering high-quality infrastructure," said Psaki.

"President Biden will continue our close consultations on the consequences of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine and mitigating its destabilizing impact on global food supply and commodity markets," said the statement.

Two leaders last spoke in March during the Quad Leaders' summit.

The virtual meeting comes as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will on Monday welcome their Indian counterparts External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh for the fourth US-India 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue.
