BIST 100 down at close, lira loses against dollar

ANKARA (AA) – The Borsa Istanbul BIST 100 index was down Tuesday afternoon to close at 77,643.59 points.

The index was down 191.71 points, or 0.25 percent to 77,643.59 points, at the close of the day.

Starting the day relatively flat compared to the previous close, the index has suffered as the Turkish lira continues to depreciate against the U.S. dollar and investor sentiment soured.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate, which was at 3.0780 by the time markets opened at 9.30 a.m. (0630GMT), rose 0.2 percent to close at 3.0850 at 5.30 p.m. (1430GMT).
