Borsa Istanbul down at close

ANKARA (AA) - Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slipped 0.15 percent at close on Wednesday amid risk of economic mood ahead of the FED monetary policy meeting.

Benchmark index of Borsa Istanbul declined 114.42 points or 0.15 percent to 76,880.85 points at close as investors were wary of taking positions before the Federal Reserve announced the interest rate decision due later in the evening.

Among the sub-indexes the banking sector was the best performer with 1.92 percent advance while the mining sector index was worst, slipping as much as 2.9 percent.

Analysts expect the FED interest rate decision and FED chair Janet Yellen’s statements after the announcement to decide the course of markets.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate, which was at 3.4880 by the time markets opened at 10.00 am. (0700 GMT) Wednesday, went down 0.4 percent to 3.4750 at the close at 06.00 p.m. (1500 GMT).
