Borsa Istanbul opens higher, lira flat against dollar

ANKARA (AA) – The Borsa Istanbul BIST 100 index advanced 0.27 percent to open at 78,102.03 points on Friday morning.

Among sub-indexes, the sports index was the best performer, with a 0.96 percent hike, while the communication sector index was the worst, with a 0.39 percent loss at open.

Despite starting the day in positive territory on Thursday, the BIST 100 index failed to sustain its remarkable gains at the end of the day, closing the day just 0.05 percent higher than the open after investors opted to secure their profits ahead of key non-farm payroll data from the U.S. economy.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate, which was at 3.0490 by the time markets closed at 5.30 p.m. (1430 GMT) Thursday, edged up to 3.0500 at the open 9.30 a.m. (0630 GMT) Friday.

During the day, U.S. non-farm payroll data from September due this afternoon and statements from Federal Reserve governors are expected to guide global markets.
