Borsa Istanbul stocks up at open

BIST 100 index rises 0.22% from previous close; USD/TRY exchange rate stands at 5.6960

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 0.22% or 212.14 points to open Thursday at 97,227.16 points.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell by 1.14% to close the day at 97,015.02 points with a daily trading volume of 6.22 billion Turkish liras ($1.1 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose slightly to 5.6960 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared to 5.6930 at Wednesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also increased to 6.4320, versus 6.4050 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 7.4710 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.4480 at market close on Wednesday.

The price of Brent oil was around $71.53 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Thursday.
