People asked to follow weather alerts, avoid outdoor activities

By Talha Ozturk

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Slovenia have declared a "yellow alert" due to heavy rainfall, asking citizens to be careful.

The yellow alert indicates moderate rainfall, requiring people to be cautious in low-lying areas.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's Federal Hydrometeorological Institute warned people in the capital Sarajevo, Mostar, Tuzla, Banja Luka, Foca, Prijedor, Trebinje, and Visegrad to be cautious and follow weather alerts, and avoid outdoor activities.

Bosnia and Herzegovina last week issued "red alerts" due to extreme heat in the region.

The red alert indicates severe health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Throughout the week, the country recorded 40C (104F) at midday.

Meanwhile, the Croatian State Hydrometeorological Institute said thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected in the capital Zagreb, and Karlovac, urging people to avoid outdoor activities.

In Slovenia, residential areas were flooded in many cities due to heavy rainfall.

Authorities announced that torrential rains will continue throughout the country, advising citizens to be cautious.
