Brazil, China vow to deepen ‘strategic partnership’

2 nations sign agreements on sustainable development, agriculture, infrastructure, low-carbon initiatives and green finance

ISTANBUL (AA) – Brazil and China vowed Thursday to deepen their strategic partnership as their vice presidents met in Beijing.

Geraldo Alckmin and Han Zheng co-chaired the seventh meeting of the China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee.

Emphasizing mutual support and strategic coordination between their two nations, Han called for enhanced communication and cooperation, Chinese state media reported.

Regarding economic matters, Alckmin noted that Brazil's trade balance with China had increased significantly from $9 billion in 2004 to $157 billion in 2023.

In a statement on X, he said he expressed Brazil’s desire to further deepen the strategic partnership, aiming to promote reciprocal investments that generate jobs, income and development.

Several cooperation agreements were signed during the meeting focusing on sustainable development, agriculture, infrastructure, low-carbon initiatives and green finance, the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services on X.

Alckmin is on a five-day trip to China for wide-ranging meetings with officials and business leaders.

The two sides are also expected to discuss the inclusion of Latin America in China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
