BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - Brazil expressed outrage after dozens of migrants deported from the US arrived by plane in handcuffs, calling it a “flagrant disregard” for their rights, local media reported.
On the instructions of Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, the Brazilian Federal Police intervened on the plane, which made an unexpected landing in the city of Manaus in the Amazon region due to a technical problem.
The plane was reportedly carrying 88 Brazilian passengers, 16 US security guards and a crew of 8 people.
It was stated that the handcuffs were removed with the intervention of the police, and then the migrants were safely transported to Belo Horizonte by a plane belonging to the Brazilian Air Force on the instructions of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
