British, Greek premiers discuss bilateral ties, illegal immigration, global conflicts

LONDON (AA) - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis met in London Tuesday to discuss bilateral ties, illegal immigration, and global conflicts.

During their meeting at 10 Downing Street, the two premiers underlined the importance of bilateral ties, reiterating their ambition to work closer with partners across Europe.

The leaders agreed that there are strong opportunities to deliver growth for both countries across trade, investment, education, and defense, according to a statement by Starmer's office.

On illegal migration, the prime ministers agreed to double down on the joint action between the UK and Greece to tackle this shared challenge.

"Turning to global conflicts, they both underlined their unwavering support for Ukraine and reiterated the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza to enable regional stability in the Middle East," said the statement.

Since launching its genocidal war on Gaza following a Hamas attack in October 2023, Israel has killed over 44,400 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and injured more than 105,000, according to official figures.

The second year of the genocide in Gaza has drawn widespread international condemnation, with starvation tactics and blocking humanitarian aid deliveries denounced as deliberate attempts to destroy the entire population.

Last month, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza, which have drawn mounting international condemnation.
