Bulgarian parliament rejects no-confidence motion

Motion was submitted by opposition over ‘government’s inability to guarantee country’s security, defense’

By Ahmet Gencturk

ATHENS (AA) – The Bulgarian parliament rejected a no-confidence motion against the government led by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, local media reported on Wednesday.

The motion, which was submitted by the opposition parties, over the “government’s inability to guarantee the country’s security and national defense,” was defeated by 155 against and 77 in favor votes, said the state-run BTA news agency.

Speaking to the press after the voting, Boyko Borisov, the leader of the GERB-UDF, part of the ruling pro-Western government, remarked that the government will stand if all sectors of the society and politics realize the government is a force for good.

He then warned: “However, if the practice of looking for scandals instead of unifying themes continues, the best is to break up this assemblage and go to new negotiations, to new elections.”
