Business registrations, bankruptcies rise in EU

ISTANBUL - (AA) - Business registrations in the EU increased by 0.5% in the last quarter of 2025 compared to the third quarter, while bankruptcy declarations also climbed by 2.5%.

The information and communication sector recorded the highest growth in new business registrations with a 6.4% jump, Eurostat announced on Monday.

This significant rise was followed by the industry sector at 4.9% and accommodation and food services at 1.3%.

Modest declines were observed in trade at 0.3%, while construction and transport both fell by 0.1%.

Bankruptcy declarations notably surged in the accommodation and food services sector by 8.6%.

The information and communication sector also faced a difficult period with bankruptcies rising by 7.9%.

Decreases in bankruptcy filings were recorded in the trade sector at 3.4% and finance at 0.7%.
