ISTANBUL (AA) - Canada's manufacturing sales rose 0.4% to $72.8 billion in September, according to figures released Wednesday by the country's statistical agency.
The market expected the figure to show a 0.1% decline, while manufacturing sales showed a gain of 1% in August.
In September, 10 of 21 subsectors showed increases in manufacturing sales.
Sales of petroleum and coal products jumped 6.3% to $9.1 billion in September, marking the highest level since January 2023, while machinery rose 1.3%, said Statistics Canada in a statement.
Those gains, however, were partially offset by lower sales of chemicals with a 1.8% decline and motor vehicle parts that fell 2.6%.
Manufacturing sales rose in five provinces during the month of September, led by Alberta and Quebec, while sales in Ontario decreased the most, the statistical agency added.
