Canada’s unemployment rate remains steady at 5.2% in October

Employment rises by 108,000, or 0.6%, from previous month

ANKARA (AA) - Canada's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.2% in October, compared to the previous month, the country’s statistical body said on Friday.

The market expectation was 5.3%.

Canada's unemployment rate jumped to 5.4% in August, marking the first increase in seven months, while it fell 0.2 percentage point to 5.2% in September.

Employment rose by 108,000, or 0.6%, in October from the previous month, led by manufacturing, construction, and accommodation and food services, according to a Canada Statistics statement.

"Employment rose in six provinces, with gains concentrated in Ontario and Quebec," it added.

Total hours worked increased 0.7% in October, after declining 0.6% in September.

On an annual basis, total hours worked were up 2.2% compared with October 2021, according to Statistics Canada.
