Casualties reported at high school shooting in US state of Georgia

WASHINGTON (AA) - Multiple casualties were reported at a high school shooting in the US state of Georgia, the Barrow County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

It said one suspect is in custody after the shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder.

"Casualties have been reported, however details on the number or their conditions is not available at this time," it said in a statement.

The FBI’s Atlanta office said it is aware of the situation in Barrow County.

"Our agents are on scene coordinating with and supporting local law enforcement," said the bureau.

Social media footage showed at least one person being loaded into a medic helicopter on a stretcher and taken to a hospital.

The White House said President Joe Biden has been briefed by Homeland Security Advisor Liz Sherwood-Randall, on the "tragic shooting" and his administration will continue coordinating with federal, state and local officials.
