Charges dropped against South Korea's first lady in luxury bag case

Prosecution also drops charges against pastor involved in probe

ANKARA (AA) - Prosecutors in South Korea dropped charges against first lady Kim Keon Hee in connection with her acceptance of a luxury bag in 2022, media reports said Wednesday.

The prosecutors announced the decision after months of probe against Kim that focused on allegations she illegally accepted a $2,255 luxury handbag from Korean American pastor Choi Jae-young in September 2022 in exchange for favors, according to Seoul-based Yonhap News.

The case also involved other expensive gifts that Choi allegedly gave Kim.

It was reported that the gifts Kim received had nothing to do with President Yoon Suk Yeol's official duties, and neither were any favors given in return.

Charges against the pastor were also dropped.
