Child killed, 7 injured in regime shelling in Syria’s Idlib

Idlib falls within de-escalation zone forged under agreement between Türkiye, Russia in March 2020

IDLIB, Syria (AA) - One child was killed and seven people were injured in regime shelling on Wednesday in northwestern Syria’s Idlib province, according to local sources.

The attack targeted the town of Sarmin by regime forces stationed in Saraqib, southwest of Idlib, the sources said.

Three children and two women were among those injured in the attack, they added.

In a related development, a mosque and school sustained damage in regime shelling in Sarmin town.

No injuries were reported.

Idlib falls within a de-escalation zone forged under an agreement between Türkiye and Russia in March 2020.

The Syrian regime, however, has consistently violated the terms of the cease-fire, launching frequent attacks inside the de-escalation zone.

Syria has been mired in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

Over the past decade, around half a million people have been killed and more than 12 million had to flee their homes.
