Chinese authorities accused Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on Tuesday of backing a hacker organization that carried out cyberattacks against a tech company in Guangzhou, the capital of China’s Guangdong province, state-run media reported.

The Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau's Tianhe District Branch said a hacker group backed by DPP authorities carried out the cyberattacks last week, the Global Times reported.

Chinese authorities said the group frequently used publicly accessible internet asset scanning platforms to target more than 1,000 key network systems in over 10 provinces and regions on the mainland in recent years.

"Especially since 2024, the scale and frequency of this hacker group's attacks against targets within the mainland have significantly increased, with clear intentions of disruption and sabotage, reflecting extremely malicious intent," Chinese police said.

The Tianhe District Branch said they reported the situation to the relevant national departments and an investigation into the case will continue and relevant criminal groups and their masterminds will be brought to justice.

Taiwan has not reacted to the Chinese authorities' accusations.
