China accuses US of destabilizing global supply chains

ANKARA(AA) - China on Wednesday accused the US of destabilizing the global industrial and supply chains and said Washington’s behavior “seriously undermines international trade rules.”

Responding to a question from a reporter in Beijing who asked about the Biden administration considering further restrictions on China’s access to chip technology used for artificial intelligence (AI), Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said Beijing already has cleared its position on the US’ “malicious attempts to block and suppress China’s semiconductor industry.”

“The US behavior seriously undermines international trade rules and destabilizes global industrial and supply chains,” Lin said in Beijing.

“China firmly opposes what the US has done. When it comes to AI, the US says it wants to have dialogue with China, while mulling steps to go after China’s AI sector. This says everything about US hypocrisy,” he said.

US action will not hold back China’s technological progress, and will only motivate Chinese companies to pursue excellence by relying on ourselves, he maintained.

“We will closely follow the developments on this front and firmly defend our lawful rights and interests,” he added.
