Media report says China hacked emails of congressional staff 'as part of a massive cyber espionage campaign'

ISTANBUL (AA) - China expressed "firm opposition" on Thursday to the "politically motivated spread of disinformation" against Beijing, after media reports said China is hacking emails of members of the US House of Representatives.

"We are firmly against the politically motivated spread of disinformation on China," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a news conference in Beijing.

"China opposes hacking and combats it in accordance with the law," she added.

According to a report by the Financial Times, China has hacked the emails used by congressional staff on powerful committees in the US House, "as part of a massive cyber espionage campaign known as Salt Typhoon."
