ANKARA (AA) - China on Thursday called on the global community to "jointly resist unilateralism" and "uphold an international system" centered around the UN and the order based on international law.
"China opposes unilateral coercive measures and calls on the international community to strengthen unity and cooperation, jointly resist unilateralism, uphold an international system centered around the UN and the international order based on international law, and promote a more just and reasonable global governance," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, the local English Global Times reported.
On the occasion of the International Day against Unilateral Coercive Measures on Thursday, he commented on the risk of "unilateral measures" like those imposed by "some countries" in recent years against Russia, China, and Iran.
Lin said that unilateral coercive measures run counter to the purposes and principles of the UN charter, undermine multilateralism and the foundations of international rule of law.
It "seriously" violates basic human rights such as the right to life and the right to development, and obstructs global development cooperation and the implementation of the UN 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, he further said.
