ISTANBUL (AA) - China and Malaysia have launched a joint dialogue between their foreign and defense ministries to strengthen strategic communication and deepen political and security cooperation, according to a joint statement released Thursday.
The new platform aims to expand high-level exchanges and enhance coordination on national security, defense, and law enforcement. The two sides also agreed to hold more joint training and military exercises.
The statement, issued at the end of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s three-day visit to Malaysia, reaffirmed both countries’ positions on several geopolitical issues.
It referred to Taiwan as “an inalienable territory of China” and reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to the One-China policy.
The two sides also declared Gaza “an inalienable part of the territory of Palestine” and urged the “continuous and effective” implementation of the ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas.
China and Malaysia emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, security, and stability in the South China Sea. They said disputes should be resolved “by peaceful means, through friendly consultations and negotiations,” in line with international law.
The statement called for self-restraint in actions at sea, warning against any steps that could complicate or escalate tensions in the disputed waters.
Beijing and Kuala Lumpur also signed a mutual visa exemption agreement.
