China pledges to ‘actively’ respond to climate change

Beijing to work with all parties to make every effort to save energy, jointly protect the planet Earth, Foreign Ministry spokesman says

ISTANBUL (AA) – China on Wednesday pledged to “actively” respond to climate change and “make every effort” for energy conservation to “protect the Earth.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun made the remarks during a live-streamed news conference in Beijing, noting that China marks its national low carbon day on June 25.

Noting that this week Beijing also marks the 35th national energy conservation week, the spokesman said: “The Chinese government has been advocating energy conservation and a low-carbon lifestyle.”

Guo emphasized that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement, from which the US withdrew on Jan. 20,noting that China is a strong supporter and key contributor to global green development.

“China will work with all parties to make every effort to save energy and actively respond to climate change and jointly protect the planet Earth that we all call home,” he added.
