ISTANBUL (AA) – China on Tuesday called on Canada to promote the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of bilateral relations, noting that Beijing is ready to strengthen communication with Ottawa.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during a phone conversation with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, at the request of the Canadian side, according to Xinhua news agency.
Wang mentioned last month’s meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in South Korea, where the two leaders reached a consensus on improving the bilateral ties.
“China is ready to strengthen communication with Canada and take effective steps to accelerate the resumption of exchanges and cooperation in various fields,” to consolidate the momentum for growing China-Canada relations, Wang said.
He urged both sides to “enhance coordination, address each other's legitimate concerns” to promote “the healthy, steady and sustainable development of China-Canada relations.”
For her part, Anand said that Canada is willing to enhance dialogue and communication with China at all levels and across various fields, such as trade, consular affairs, drug control, and energy, according to Xinhua.
