ANKARA (AA) — China's chief foreign affairs advisor Wang Yi said on Saturday that Beijing is willing to enhance communication with Germany, state-run media reported.
Wang Yi met in Beijing with visiting German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who arrived in China on Thursday on her three-day visit to the country.
"China supported Germany's reunification, and it's believed and hoped that Germany will support China's peaceful reunification," the daily Global Times quoted Wang as saying.
"To safeguard the stability in the Taiwan Straits, 'Taiwan independence' separatist activities must be firmly opposed," he added.
Earlier on Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said Foreign Minister Qin Gang and Baerbock co-chaired the sixth round of China-Germany Strategic Dialogue on Diplomacy and Security.
"They held candid, in-depth strategic communication on bilateral ties and international and regional hotspot issues," Wang told reporters during a regular briefing.
Responding to a question on earlier statements by Baerbock on the subject of Taiwan, Wang said Beijing elaborated its position on the matter.
On Ukraine, China stressed that peace talks are the only viable way out of the crisis, he added. "We stand ready to work for peace.
"We also hope relevant parties will stay objective and calm and make joint efforts towards a negotiated resolution of the crisis," he said.
