China’s 1st intelligent oceanographic research ship delivered to Tongji University in Shanghai

ISTANBUL (AA) - China's first intelligent oceanographic research vessel Tong Ji was officially delivered from a major shipbuilding company to Tongji University in Shanghai on Sunday, local media reported on Sunday.

Built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company based in the southern Guangzhou city for Tongji University in Shanghai, this 2,000-metric-ton intelligent vessel is designed for scientific research and engineering support, according to China Daily.

Measuring 82 meters (269 feet) long and 15 meters (49 feet) wide, it can carry 15 crew members and 30 researchers, with a range of 8,000 nautical miles.

It is capable of autonomous navigation, optimizing energy-efficient routes, and features a robust communication system for seamless coordination across air, sea, and underwater research operations.

Tong Ji, based on a 2,000-ton class platform, offers the operational capacity of a 3,000-ton vessel due to its efficient design.

The vessel is equipped with modular labs that can be customized for different research missions, supporting fields like marine geology, biology, chemistry, and atmospheric studies.
