ISTANBUL (AA) – The Communist Party of China (CPC) has elected 2,296 delegates to attend its 20th National Congress next month in Beijing.
The major CPC gathering, which is held once every five years, will kick off in the capital on Oct. 16, where the country’s objectives and policies for the coming years will be laid out.
President Xi Jinping’s leadership, who has already completed two terms at the CPC’s helm, will also be up for debate at the summit.
The process to elect delegates “fully embodied intraparty democracy,” the CPC said in a statement.
The delegates include “outstanding CPC members who are highly-qualified ideologically and politically, have good work styles and high moral standards, are competent in discussing state affairs, and have made remarkable achievements in their work,” it said.
They include a considerable number of women and people from ethnic minority groups, it added.
