Internet penetration in country reaches 78% by end of June, reports state-run media

ANKARA (AA) – The number of internet users in China has reached nearly 1.1 billion as of June this year, up by 7.42 million from the end of 2023, state-run media reported on Thursday.

The internet penetration in the country has reached 78% by the end of June, Xinhua News reported, citing a China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) report.

During the last six months, the country's online retail sales have also surged by 9.8% year on year to nearly 7.1 trillion yuan ($999 billion).

The report further said that over 5 million inbound visitors used mobile payments in China during the first half of this year, marking a 400% increase from one year earlier.
