China's rising mosquito-borne disease cases 'under control': Foreign Ministry

ISTANBUL (AA) - China said Thursday that the mosquito-borne chikungunya disease cases are "under control," state media reported.

"The current situation is preventable, treatable, and controllable," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a news conference in Beijing.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was planning to issue a travel advisory for China due to a rise in chikungunya infection cases in the country, according to Bloomberg reported, citing a spokesperson from the organization.

The southern Guangdong province witnessed nearly 3,000 cases in July 20-26, according to the China Daily.

Guo, in turn, said that the disease is documented across 119 countries and regions.

"China has maintained communication with the World Health Organization on the matter," the spokesman noted.

"The Chinese government has always attached great importance to the health of both Chinese citizens and foreign nationals in the country," he also said, noting that it will continue to "provide a comfortable, safe, and convenient travel environment for both domestic and overseas travelers."
