China's test of reusable kerosene-fueled rocket fails
Problem with engine during landing caused partial damage
By Yasin Gungor
ISTANBUL (AA) - China's efforts to test a reusable kerosene-fueled rocket encountered a setback on Sunday, as an engine malfunction disrupted the landing phase, according to state media.
The test, conducted by commercial aerospace start-up Deep Blue Aerospace, successfully completed most of its mission objectives, including engine ignition, ascent to predetermined altitude, and deployment of landing legs.
However, a problem with the engine thrust control servo during the landing shutdown phase caused the rocket to land higher than planned, resulting in partial damage.
Despite the issue, the rocket accomplished 10 out of 11 major verification tasks.
The company said it plans another test in November by incorporating lessons from the recent attempt.
