ISTANBUL (AA) - A day after Beijing and Washington agreed to extend a 90-day tariff truce, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday called for expanding channels of communication and consultation with the US.

Wang hosted a delegation from the board of directors of the US-China Business Council (USCBC) in Beijing, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

China’s policy toward the US will remain “consistent and stable,” Wang said, emphasizing that ties should be governed by “mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.”

“China and the US should establish more channels for communication and consultation, view each other with an objective, rational, and pragmatic attitude, and establish a correct strategic understanding,” he said.

He urged both sides to “respect each other's key interests,” avoid confrontation and conflict, and reject “unilateralism and hegemony.”

USCBC board chairman Mark Riesberg, Otis Worldwide chair Judy Marks, Boeing executive Steve Nelson, and Apple Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan were among the attendees.

The meeting followed an agreement between Chinese and US officials to extend the tariff truce beyond the Aug. 12 deadline, according to China’s Vice Commerce Minister Li Chenggang.

The understanding was reached after two days of talks in Sweden, led by Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
