China’s US Treasury holdings decrease in April

ANKARA (AA) - China's US Treasury holdings fell to $868.9 billion in April, leaving its holdings below $1 trillion for a year, according to local media on Friday.

The figure was down $400 million from a month ago, the Chinese daily Global Times reported citing data from the Treasury International Capital (TIC) reporting system of the US.

The decrease was due to fluctuations in the currency exchange rate and declining US dollar credit, an expert told Global Times.

The holdings of the UK, the third largest creditor of the US, also dropped by $30.4 billion month-on-month to $680.7 billion in April.

On the other hand, the US' largest creditor Japan's US Treasury holdings grew $39.3 billion to $1.13 trillion.
