ISTANBUL (AA) – China’s President Xi Jinping on Wednesday chaired a meeting to discuss “disciplinary inspections,” state media reported.
It, however, did not give further details.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), chaired the meeting of the Political Bureau of the party where the members discussed a report on disciplinary inspections launched by the 20th CPC Central Committee.”
Inside the CPC, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection is the highest mechanism to enforce rules and regulations and combat corruption.
It comes amid reports that the country’s Defense Minister Li Shangfu has been placed under investigation.
There has been no official word from Beijing about Li, who was not seen since early this month.
He last attended the third China-Africa Peace and Security Forum in Beijing, on Aug. 29, where he urged African nations to reject "hegemony" and "bullying actions.”
“China never imposes its will on other countries and never interferes in Africa's internal affairs,” Li had said.
