China's Xi urges 'robust legislative guarantees' for ties with Russia under 'new circumstances'

ISTANBUL (AA) - Chinese President Xi Jinping urged "robust legislative guarantees" on Tuesday for ties with Russia under "new circumstances," during a meeting with Russian Parliament Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

Xi expressed hope that the two sides "will actively share experiences on governance and legislation in order to provide a more solid legislative guarantee for China-Russia strategic coordination and cooperation in various fields under the new circumstances," according to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Volodin is on a two-day visit to Beijing.

"Legislative cooperation is an indispensable component of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era," said Xi.

He pointed out that China-Russia relations are the "most stable, mature, and strategically significant major power relationship in today's volatile and changing world."

“Consistently promoting the high-level development of China-Russia relations serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples and is a source of stability for world peace," he added.

Volodin said that "under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state," Moscow and Beijing have deepened relations and "achieved remarkable results."

He also affirmed Moscow's commitment to implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state, enhancing communication and cooperation between the two legislative bodies, and promoting further achievements in ties.
