Chinese citizen sentenced to death for ‘endangering public safety’ over investment losses

ISTANBUL (AA) – A court in southern China on Monday gave a suspended death sentence to a citizen for “endangering public safety,” following investment losses and family conflicts.

Changde Intermediate People's Court sentenced Huang Wen to death with a two-year reprieve, the state-run Global Times daily reported.

Huang was found to have been “motivated by investment losses and family conflicts,” after he rammed his vehicle into elementary school students and other people in Changde in mountainous Hunan province in southern China on Nov. 19, according to the daily.

The incident left 30 people injured, including 18 elementary school students, and damage to both public and private property

It was an “attempt to vent his personal frustrations,” the court observed.

Huang was also deprived of his political rights for life.
