ANKARA/GENEVA (AA) – The civilian death toll in the Russia-Ukraine war has climbed to 1,892, the UN said on Tuesday, while the number of people fleeing the war is now above 4.6 million.

At least 2,558 more people have been injured in Ukraine since Feb. 24, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said in a statement.

“Most of the civilian casualties recorded were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including shelling from heavy artillery and multiple launch rocket systems, and missile and air strikes,” it added.

Data from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) showed the number of people who have left Ukraine since the start of the war has risen to more than 4.61 million.

Most of them have gone to neighboring countries – over 2.64 million to Poland, 701,741 to Romania, 433,083 to Russia, 428,954 to Hungary, 413,374 to Moldova, 320,246 to Slovakia and 21,292 to Belarus, according to latest UNHCR figures.

Millions more are internally displaced in Ukraine, with an update from the International Organization for Migration earlier this week placing the number at 7.1 million.
