By Baris Seckin
ROME (AA) - Climate activists defaced luxury shops in Rome on Thursday, according to state-run ANSA news agency.
A group with the Last Generation poured orange paint on the windows and entrances to shops on the well-known Condotti Street, it said.
The activists were insulted by onlookers, it added.
Last Generation activists entered courts earlier this week during matches at the Rome Open Tennis Tournament and temporarily halted matches.
- There has been an increase in actions of climate activists in Italy
Last Generation activists carried out paint protests on monuments and fountains in cities in Italy in 2023 and occasionally closed streets and highways to traffic.
Activists poured green dye into the Grand Canal in Venice in December, the Trevi Fountain (Fountain of Love) and the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Rome in May 2023, and the historic City Hall in Florence in March 2023.
The group also carried out similar actions in other areas, including against the Monument of Vittorio Emmanuel II in Milan.
The right-wing coalition government led by Giorgia Meloni has chosen to increase penalties in response to frequent actions of climate activists against cultural heritage assets.
