Climate strikes, environmental protests in November 2020
Environmental groups, activists around globe continue protesting online, mostly due to increasing COVID-19 cases

ANKARA (AA) - Strikes, demonstrations, and protests continued across the globe in November with protesters demanding stronger action to tackle climate change.
Activists and concerned citizens held massive virtual events last month, as well as street protests while keeping socially distant due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Events included Fridays for Future protests launched in 2018 by Swedish teenage activist Greta Thunberg, as well as a waste collection campaign and several digital climate strikes.
Here is a timeline of global protests and demonstrations last month as compiled by Anadolu Agency.
Nov. 6:
- In the first Fridays for Future strike, climate activists and environmental protesters around the world gather on the streets and online to raise awareness on issues related to climate change.
- Turkish climate activist Deniz Cevikus on her 85th week of digital strikes stresses the importance of "bold climate plans" to secure a better future.
- Togolese climate and environmental activist Kaossara Sani singles out the Saudi Aramco as "the first big polluters of the world with 13.6m barrels of oil a day, adding that oil revenues destroyed not only countries like Yemen but also the planet.
Nov. 9:
- A 23-year-old Ugandan climate activist, Vanessa Nakate, writes an open letter to US President-elect Joe Biden and Vice president-elect Kamala Harris, demanding earnest measures against climate change.
Nov. 10:
- Holding an environmental protest with a group of children in Uganda, Patience Nabukalu sets forth their movement's demands that government officials put up strict and firm rules on wetland degradation as "wetlands are not dumpsters."
- The South Asia office of climate group 350.com calls for popular participation in the Asia Climate Rally slated for Nov. 28.
Nov. 12:
- Young climate activists around the world meet at the Global Gathering for Climate Justice which includes dozens of events, held virtually by the COP26 Coalition group.
Nov. 13:
- At the second Fridays for Future strike, climate activists and environmental protesters gather physically and virtually to raise climate awareness.
- A group of protesters holds demonstrations in Chattogram, Bangladesh, demanding urgent action for climate justice in Coastal Day 2020 celebrations.
- Protesters in New Zealand ask the government for urgent climate action in the 62nd week of a strike at the country's parliament.
Nov. 19:
- World Toilet Day is marked across the world digitally under the theme of "Sustainable sanitation and climate change."
Nov. 20:
- Climate and environmental activists gather for the month's third Fridays for Future strike.
Nov. 21:
- The Fridays for Future movement calls on the Irish government to step up its fight against the climate crisis by fixing the country's climate bill.
Nov. 22:
- Along with a group of other activists, Nirere Sadrach of Uganda shares footage on Twitter showing plastic waste from Coca Cola products strewn in and around Lake Victoria, saying: "Coca Cola is leading other companies in producing plastics polluting Africa's largest fresh water body."
Nov. 26:
- Climate and environmental activists around the world join the digital campaign #SaveOkavangoDelta to raise awareness about keeping the river delta in Botswana healthy.
Nov. 27:
- The last Fridays for Future strike of the month is held.
- In her climate strike, nine-year-old Indian activist Licypriya Kangujam advocates for farmers as they struggle in the face of climate change, saying on Twitter: "They're already the victims of #ClimateCrisis."
- Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg completes the 119th week of school strikes and she criticizes Black Friday. "Overconsumption is wrecking present and future living conditions and the planet itself. Don't buy stuff you don't need," she says on Twitter.
Nov. 28:
- 30 speakers across 10 Asian countries gather virtually at Asia Climate Rally 2020 to call for urgent climate action.
Nov. 29:
- Underlining world leaders' pledge to keep global warming below 1.5C, the Fridays for Future movement starts the "#Fightfor1Point5 campaign" and calls people to join the global action on Dec. 11, the fifth anniversary of the Paris Agreement.
