BAGHDAD (AA) – An unspecified number of Daesh terrorists were killed in western Iraq on Friday by airstrikes carried out by a U.S.-led military coalition, according to the Iraqi army.
In a statement, the army said that the strikes had targeted “terrorist positions” in the Badiyat al-Jazirah region between Iraq’s Anbar and Nineveh provinces.
The strikes, the army went on to assert, had been carried out “based on information provided by the Iraqi intelligence apparatus”.
It did not say how many terrorists were believed to have been killed in the bombardments.
In late 2017, officials in Baghdad declared that Daesh's military presence in Iraq had been all but destroyed.
The army, however, continues to carry out sporadic anti-Daesh operations, especially in northern and western Iraq.
