Colombia’s Avianca Airlines resumes daily flights between Bogota and Caracas

Flights resume following comprehensive evaluation of operational and aviation safety conditions in coordination with authorities

ISTANBUL (AA) - Colombia-based Avianca, one of the world’s oldest airlines and a premier carrier in Latin America, announced Thursday that it has resumed daily flights from Bogota to Caracas, Venezuela.

The national airline and flag carrier of Colombia said it resumed the important route following a review of operating conditions and flight safety conducted in coordination with Colombian and Venezuelan authorities, describing the assessment as a “comprehensive evaluation of operational conditions and aviation safety.”

Avianca will operate a daily round-trip service using an Airbus A320 aircraft, with flight AV142 departing Bogota at 07.40 am and AV143 returning from Caracas at 12.10 pm local time.

"For us, as Avianca, after 60 years of connecting Colombia with Venezuela, today's return after a slight interruption of service makes us stronger, with a daily frequency,” the airline's president, Gabriel Oliva, told reporters.

Oliva highlighted that following the normalization of the air situation, the connection between Colombia and Venezuela provides "opportunities for millions of passengers" not only to fly between the two capitals but also to reach 83 destinations in 28 countries covered by the airline.

Following the US Federal Aviation Administration's warning about increased security risks in Venezuelan airspace, Avianca had halted flights to the country last November.
