ISTANBUL (AA) - The 14th edition of Contemporary Istanbul (CI), one of the leading annual art fairs in Turkey, will start in September to gather the best contemporary artworks from Turkey and across the globe.
The four-day event -- set to kick off on Sept. 12 -- will meet more than 70 art galleries from 22 countries.
Curated by French artistic director Anissa Touati, the festival will host 510 artists in the megacity.
“As of 2019, a new term has begun [in Istanbul] with the opening of many new museums,” Ali Gureli, director of the art fair, said.
“Contemporary art exhibitions, fairs and newly-opened and to-be opened museums as well as culture centers will carry Istanbul to a place, where it should be,” he said.
As a foremost art fair in the region, Contemporary Istanbul significantly contributes to the city’s artistic transition, the director of the fair asserted.
The event mainly sponsored by Turkey’s lender Akbank will be open through Sept. 15.
