YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AA) – Over 460 new cases have taken Nigeria’s nationwide coronavirus case toll to more than 33,000, health authorities said late Tuesday.

Till date 33,616 cases have been confirmed, including 13,792 cases discharged in the country’s 36 states, according to latest figures from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The West African country has also recorded 754 deaths related to COVID-19.

Late Tuesday the government of southwestern Ogun State said it had set up a committee that would examine the possibilities of school reopening in line with the coronavirus guidelines.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun has set up a committee to work in collaboration with the Presidential Taskforce and the Federal Ministry of Education to look into the reopening of schools in compliance with coronavirus safety measures,” the Daily Post quoted Deputy Governor of Ogun State Noimot Salako-Oyedele as saying.

Earlier this week, the West African country released new guidelines for the resumption of schools.

The country resumed domestic flights in two major cities last week after several months of suspension.
