Coronavirus casualties rise in Eurasia, Central Asia

Over 2,600 more infections reported across Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Georgia

NUR SULTAN (AA) – Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Sunday.

- Ukraine

Ukraine’s COVID-19 tally has increased to 119,074, with 2,096 more infections recorded over the past 24 hours, according to Health Minister Maksym Stepanov.

The death toll swelled by 35 to reach 2,527, while 596 more recoveries took the total to 56,734.

More than 27,000 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours, the minister said.

- Uzbekistan

A total of 236 new cases raised Uzbekistan’s overall count to 41,303, as four more fatalities took the death toll to 311.

At least 109 more patients recovered over the past day, bringing the total to 38,311.

According to the Health Ministry, 2,633 patients remain under treatment and around 100,000 more are under medical surveillance.


- Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, 126 new infections raised the total to 105,684.

Recoveries increased to 96,135 with 247 additions, while nine fatalities took the death toll to 1,581, the Health Ministry said.

Nearly 10,000 COVID-19 patients, including 49 children, are under treatment across the country, the ministry added.

- Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan recorded 108 more cases, raising its total to 43,820.

Over 1,059 patients have died and nearly 38,200 have recovered from the virus so far, according to the Health Ministry.

At least 6,00 people are still under treatment in the country, the ministry added.


- Armenia

Armenia’s case count increased by 124 to reach 43,750.

Five more virus-related fatalities raised the death toll to 877, while recoveries stand at 37,650.

- Georgia

In Georgia, seven more cases brought the total to 1,510.

The country’s death toll stands at 19, while recoveries increased by 25 to reach 1,221.
