COVID-19 cases continue to decline in Ivory Coast

Less than 2% positivity rate since April, says government spokesman

LOME, Togo (AA) - With 149 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the number of infections continues to fall in Ivory Coast.

Government spokesman Amadou Coulibaly told reporters on Wednesday that the rate of positivity is declining since April, and is currently 2%.

The West African country has registered 47,933 confirmed cases, including 306 deaths and 47,322 recoveries, according to the Health Ministry.

The country is continuing its vaccination campaign launched on March 1. As many as 712,777 doses have already been administered, said Health Minister Pierre N'gou Dimba.

After receiving and using the 729,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, Ivorian authorities received 100,620 doses of Pfizer vaccine at the Felix Houphouët Boigny airport on Wednesday.

"The country intends to acquire millions of doses to eventually vaccinate 8 million Ivorians," the ministry said. The country has a population of more than 25 million.
