COVID-19: France’s death toll surpasses 60,000
More than 2.44M virus cases so far detected in France, says country’s Public Health Agency

PARIS (AA) – The coronavirus outbreak in France has taken 264 lives in hospitals in the last 24 hours, Public Health Agency announced on Friday.
The number of people detected with the virus increased by 15,674 in the last 24 hours.
The total number of infected cases reported in the country now stands at 2.44 million, according to the agency.
As much as 264 people have died in hospitals in the last 24 hours due to COVID-19 and 355 in old age care homes in the last three days.
So far 60,229 people have died because of COVID-19 in the country.
A total of 24,977 people are being treated in hospitals, of which 2,773 are in intensive care.
The number of those who recovered has increased by 1,150, taking to total recovered numbers to 182,656.
The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed over 1.66 million lives in 191 countries and regions since last December.
Nearly 75.18 million cases have been reported worldwide, with more than 42.51 million recoveries, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
While the US, India, and Brazil remain the worst-hit countries in terms of the number of cases, Europe is in the grip of a devastating second wave of infections.
