COVID-19: Polish premier rules out lockdown

ANKARA (AA) - The Polish prime minister ruled out a nationwide lockdown if the number of infections continued to slow down in the country.

“This week, for the first time in two months, the number of infections started to drop! Although the ratio of the infected-65/100,000 inhabitants is still a lot, the first signal of stabilization is a proof that our strategy and restrictions are working,” Mateusz Morawiecki said on Facebook on Thursday night.

“What does this mean? We do not have to introduce a national quarantine,” he added.

Morawiecki said the country has won the first battle against the virus but there is a long way ahead and urged citizens to comply with the government restrictions.

The country on Friday reported 24,051 new COVID-19 infections and 419 more deaths, bringing its total number of cases to 665,547 and fatalities to 9,499.
