The death toll due to riots in Papua New Guinea climbed to 22 on Friday as Prime Minister James Marape declared a two-week state of emergency.
The remains of six people were found in the capital Port Moresby on Friday, Australia's ABC News reported.
Riots began Wednesday after “some residents took advantage of police being on strike” and set shops and businesses in Port Moresby on fire.
Police, defense, and other public servants were on protest at the country’s Parliament House over salary issues.
Marape suspended Police Commissioner David Manning and issued a warning that he would replace undisciplined police officers.
However, at least seven parliament members have announced to resign after stating they "lost confidence" in the prime minister.
