Denmark 'impressed' by Turkey's anti-coup stance
Turkish people have protected their democracy, parliament, state, Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen says
ANKARA (AA) - Denmark on Thursday voiced support for Turkey's counter-terrorism efforts and its people's role in suppressing the deadly July 15 coup attempt.
Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen met with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Ankara.
"I was impressed by the stance of the Turkish people against the coup attempt. They took really a strong stance. They protected their democracy, parliament and government," Jensen said during a joint press conference with Cavusoglu.
Jensen also expressed support for Turkey's fight against any kind of terrorism, adding that Denmark would also "continue to combat all terror groups wherever or whoever they are."
Turkey’s government blames FETO for the deadly July 15 coup attempt. At least 241 people were martyred and nearly 2,200 injured in the failed coup which the government has said was organized by followers of Fetullah Gulen, the head of FETO.
Gulen is accused of leading a long-running campaign to overthrow the Turkish government through the infiltration of state institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary, forming what is commonly known as the parallel state.
