Denmark raises travel alert for Israel over security risk

Danish Foreign Ministry says there exists increased risk of significant escalation in fighting between Hezbollah and Israel

By Ebad Ahmed

PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AA) – Denmark has issued an advisory to its citizens against all travel to Israel due to the rising escalation in hostilities between Israel and Lebanese militant group, Hezbollah.

“We advise against all travel to Israel due to a very high security risk as a result of an increased risk of significant escalation in the fighting between Lebanese Hezbollah and Israel and due to the situation in Gaza,” the Danish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The ministry, in its travel advisory to its citizens, maintained that the security situation in the region can deteriorate with little or no notice.

Meanwhile, a Hezbollah commander was killed in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon, a day before the travel advisory issued by Denmark.

The Israeli army confirmed that it had killed the Hezbollah commander in an airstrike in the coastal city of Tyre, adding that the deceased was the second most senior Hezbollah commander killed by Israel since the outbreak of cross-border clashes last October.

Tensions have soared along Lebanon's border with Israel amid cross-border attacks between Hezbollah and Israeli forces as Tel Aviv pressed ahead with its deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 37,900 people since Oct. 7 last year.

At least 359 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in border clashes with Israeli forces since Oct. 8, 2023, according to an Anadolu tally.
